Try a new alternative to BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Very similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is a new wrinkle relaxer approved to treat forehead wrinkles and frown lines. Dysport is approved to treat wrinkles in 23 countries and is now approved in the U.S.
How does it work?
Dysport® is an injectable form of botulinum toxin Type A like BOTOX® Cosmetic. It blocks the nerve impulses that cause your facial muscles to contract and form lines. The main ingredient is a neurotoxin, but the amount is so incredibly small that it’s considered non-toxic. It relaxes facial muscles and allows unsightly lines and wrinkles to flatten out giving you a younger more rested look.
What is the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®?
The primary difference between the two is that Dysport works within one to two days where BOTOX® Cosmetic takes three to five. This rapid response is appealing to someone who wants to improve their appearance before a social event or meeting. Some studies have shown that Dysport® injections may keep wrinkles at bay for six months in the crow’s feet area, as opposed to the approximate three month timeframe with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Who is a good candidate?
Facial movements such as frowning or squinting can create frown lines so they may develop even in younger adults. Dysport® is used to treat moderate to severe frown lines in adult patients less than 65 years of age.
What are the side effects?
Potential side effects of Dysport® are similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. They include local numbness, swelling, bruising or a burning sensation during injection. Placing ice on the injection site before and after the procedure can reduce side effects.
How long does it take?
The Dysport® procedure usually takes about 15 minutes. When the effects begin to fade, you can return for a follow-up treatment.
Selecting the correct injection points is critical to the success of the procedure.
